Instructions for nominating weekend moderators

The Colorado Presbyterian Pilgrimage Council would like to thank you for nominating a Moderator for  CPP 26 (October 24-28, 2012).  The successful nominee will serve first as Observing Moderator at the Pilgrimage weekend immediately prior to his or her moderating weekend.

Things to keep in mind as you contemplate your nomination:

• Pray for discernment about your prospective choice.  Does your nominee demonstrate commitment to prayer, discernment and the Christian leadership experience, which the Moderator position requires?
• Nominees must have (1) served on the staff of at least one CPC/CPP weekend (2) given a talk (rollo)  (3) remained active in the Colorado Pilgrimage/Cursillo community.
• Contact the prospective nominee to see if they feel God is calling them to this responsible position and secure permission to place their name in nomination.
• Make sure the nominee is able to make the heavy time commitment required.  The nominee is required to be at two weekends, as well as the mandatory training weekends about one month prior to the regular weekends. A number of other planning meetings are also required.  Attendance at monthly Council meetings is expected until the Moderator weekend is completed.
• Complete the application form and then inform a minister of the nominee’s home church, who can vouch for the nominee’s spiritual life, of your plan to nominate the person.  Ask the minister to sign the nomination form. Information will be confidential.
• Submit the nomination form to Beth Lebsock, Chair, Colorado Presbyterian Pilgrimage Council, c/o First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.  You can also scan and email it to council@coloradopilgrimage.org.   The form is due no later than June 6, 2011. 
• Please pray for the CPP Council as it selects upcoming moderators by unanimous vote of the Council.

ELECTION PROCEDURE

Election to the Colorado Presbyterian Pilgrimage Council will be handled in the following manner:

Nominating Committee

1. A Nominating Committee of five active Pilgrimage members will be chosen annually with its members to serve one- year terms and no more than three terms consecutively. A member having served three consecutive terms shall be ineligible for reelection to that Committee for one year. The definition of "Active Pilgrimage Member" is someone who in the last 12 months participates in one or more of the following Pilgrimage Activities: Agape Nights, Gatherings, Renewal, Staff, 4th Day Activities or Council.

2. Two members of the Committee shall be designated by the Pilgrimage Council from among active Council members, one of whom shall serve as Chairman of the Nominating Committee. The other three Committee members, not currently on Council and sufficient to constitute a majority, shall be chosen from the 4th Day Community by Council.

3. The Nominating Committee shall have the responsibility of selecting nominees for each vacant Council office. They shall give advance notice to the 4th Day of any pertinent eligibility requirements (see #1 Terms of Office) for the officers being elected. Committee members shall accept nominations for the Council officers being elected and may make their own nominations as well.

4. The Nominating Committee shall open its meetings with prayer, shall give prayerful consideration to each nominee, and shall screen nominees for eligibility and willingness to serve.

5. The Nominating Committee shall submit a slate of nominees for positions on Pilgrimage Council to 4th Day for vote by email or by regular mail for those who request a written ballot, to be returned by date stated on ballot.
